Patents - Attorney Amir Friedman

The revolutionary and important decision, within the framework of the verdict in the "State Street Bank" case, opened the door to a new type of abstract invention, aroused many reactions around the world and caused a flooding of the United States Patent Office with requests for patents in the field of computers and business methods.

The American Patent Office, in the wake of this verdict, reacted by enlarging the qualifications for patents in the light of the advancement of technology and the pressure from companies and the bodies that deal in the field. Many patents were granted, of which some were criticized widely by the legal and business communities.

The criticism focussed on the question of whether it is appropriate from the aspect of law and philosophy to grant patent protection to a business method that is in essence a competitive idea meant to be in the public domain, and how to appropriately deal with originality in the inter-active environmental that involves inventions that defend business methods.

With the goal of dealing with the many and wide ranging changes that stem from the verdict in the "State Street Bank" case, the book "Patents" was published in the beginning of the year 2000.

The book examines, in depth and thoroughly, the law of patents, the essence of patents, their commercial importance, the protection afforded from the registration of patents, management of lawsuits for patent infringement and many additional aspects which are connected to this field.

The book "Patents" can be purchased through Perlstein Ginnosor Publishing of legal texts (to get to the website of the publishing firm of Perlstein Ginnosar click here.)

From the introduction to the text "Patents", by the Honorable Meir Shamgar, Head of the High Court of Justice (retired)

"This book gathers within it much guidance, direction and useful facts and formulations that were collected by the learned author through great effort. I am certain that this will be of great benefit to all those who deal in the above field, including those in need of it in the wake of their inventions.
